Teaching is a tough gig

November 7, 2015

Throughout my adult life, there have been more people qualified to teach than WILLING to teach [New study finds no teacher shortage in Indiana, Oct. 28 IBJ.com].

During the teacher shortage hearing, many noted that urban, rural, and even suburban, higher-paying schools are struggling to fill faculty positions and struggling to provide qualified substitutes.

Who can pay off college loans on starting salaries of $35,000 with no assurance of ever getting a raise in base pay and little or no financial compensation for achieving advanced degrees? Would you recommend that your son or daughter go into teaching?
