Home builders filed 653 single-family construction permits in the nine-county area in June—the busiest month since August 2007, when 722 permits were filed, BAGI reported Thursday.
The number was 9 percent higher than the 599 permits that were filed in June 2016. Filings have risen in 21 of the last 24 months.
Overall, filings are up 5 percent so far this year compared with the first six months of 2016, from 3,003 to 3,150.
Permit filings were up 7 percent in Marion County, from 99 in June 2016 to 106 last month.
Hamilton County saw a 28 percent jump in filings, from 187 to 240.
Hendricks County filings rose 4 percent, to 112, but Johnson County filings dipped 12 percent, to 67.
Filings rose 15 percent in Hancock County, to 45, and fell 18 percent in Boone County, to 42.
Madison County saw filings drop from 19 to 10. Morgan County reported 16 filings and Shelby County had 15.
