Home builders continued to see strong demand for new homes in central Indiana last month, according to the latest numbers from the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis.
Builders filed 521 single-family construction permits in the nine-county area in July—14 percent more than the 457 permits that were filed in July 2016, BAGI reported Wednesday.
Filings have risen in 22 of the last 24 months.
Overall, filings are up 6 percent so far this year compared with the first seven months of 2016, from 3,460 to 3,671.
Permit filings dropped 13 percent in Marion County, from 84 in June 2016 to 73 last month.
Hamilton County, however, saw a 19 percent jump in filings, from 157 to 187. And Hendricks County filings rose 15 percent, from 82 to 94.
Johnson County filings rose 8 percent, to 55, and Hancock County filings increased 46 percent, to 38.
Boone County filings soared 63 percent, to 39.
Morgan County reported 16 filings and Shelby County had 13.
Madison County saw filings drop from 13 to 6.
