Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis has selected a new president and CEO following the retirement of its previous leader.

The not-for-profit announced Thursday that its board of directors has named Elyssa Campodonico-Barr as the new president and CEO. She will start later this month.

Campodonico-Barr replaces Pat Wachtel, who retired in January after overseeing the organization for 11 years.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to use my passion for the advancement of girls’ empowerment to lead Girls Inc. into a new phase of innovation and growth,” Campodonico-Barr said in a prepared statement. “Now is a critical time to focus on inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold.”

Campodonico-Barr previously served as chief of staff of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles and advisor to BMV Commissioner Peter Lacy. In those roles, she oversaw several departments, including legal, marketing, and communications and development.

Prior to joining the BMV, she was an attorney and legal fellow for Indiana University’s Office of the Vice President and General Counsel, where she primarily focused on Title IX higher education issues.

Campodonico-Barr also has experience volunteering as a program facilitator with Girls Inc.
