As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowMilwaukee-based Rockwell Automation Inc. plans to consolidate distribution operations in Illinois and Tennessee into a new distribution center in Indianapolis, according to the company.
The closures involve a distribution center and customer-returns centers in Champaign, Illinois, that employ more than 200 people. Bruce Quinn, a spokesman for Rockwell, told the News-Gazette of Champaign that the closures would take place in about a year.
The other closure involves a distribution center in Memphis with an undisclosed number of employees.
Quinn said the employees at the facilities will have the opportunity to apply for similar jobs at the Indianapolis location.
The Indianapolis plant will use automation to improve operations, the company said, and will be managed by Kuehne + Nagel, a global logistics company headquartered in Switzerland.
Quinn said the change is "part of optimizing what we do and how we do it."
