Builders filed 647 single-family construction permits in the nine-county area last month, up 24 percent compared with the 521 permits that were filed in July 2017, according to the latest numbers from the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis.
That’s the largest number of permit filings in July since 2007.
On a year-to-date basis, permit filings are up 21 percent, from 3,671 in the first seven months of 2017 to 4,439 during the same period this year.
Area filings have been on the rise in 30 of the last 32 months.
Hamilton County led the area in filings in July with 212, an increase of 13 percent compared with the same month of 2017.
Marion County saw a whopping 81 percent increase in filings, from 73 to 132.
Filings jumped 108 percent in Hancock County, to 79.
Hendricks County received 97 filings in July, an increase of 3 percent.
Permits were up 13 percent in Johnson County, to 62. They declined 13 percent in Boone County, to 34.
Filings dipped from 16 to 15 in Morgan County and fell from 13 to seven in Shelby County.
Madison County saw nine filings, up from six in July 2017.
