  1. Where to start on this piece. Much of it is valid. It is time to legalize marijuana, however, like states who already have, most of the commerce will still be side hustle and not taxed. As far as differentiating violent and non-violent crime is a slippery slope. To de-prioritize “non-violent crime” leads to gangs looting stores and businesses. “What’s the big deal, nobody was injured”. And then another business leaves the city. Jobs are gone and quality of life lowered. All crime needs to be prosecuted and have consequences associated that meet the crime. Poor quality of life policies like graffiti, beggars, vandalism and littering all contribute to the decline of a city. Many homicide victims and perpetrators are out of jail at the time because of lax bail standards. We have a long hard time ahead from the current system. But to ignore what seems to be minor acts is not going to get the job done.
