  1. I remember being turned on to him back in the 70’s. Not enough meaningful social commentary in music today. Jesse Welles is a younger version making an effort these days.

  2. John Prine was an American Treasure -a common man with a genius for the perfect turn of a phrase, adorned in a musical lyric. I’m looking forward to the watching “You’ve Got Gold,” and hearing insights from Mr. Wilber and Mr. Meitus. I will then visit Nick’s and loft a beer to my good fortune to be alive when John Prine was making such meaningful music.

  3. As a lifelong fan, my highlight is December 4, 1987 seeing John with my brother at the Vic Theater in Chicago. Had SRO tickets and stood near the back bar. Was awed at how quiet the crowd became when John sang … we all wanted to hear every word. He told a story about being interviewed and was asked to explain some of his lyrics. His response, “sometimes it’s better to rhyme than make sense”, then tore into Grampa Was a Carpenter!
