It seems like financial malfeasance pops up a lot around charter schools.
It’s not just charters, it seems to be any institutions that have leaders that are not tenured and trained in ethics, responsibility, and discipline.
It was my understanding that the entire purpose of a charter school was to funnel public funds to “lower oversight” institutions. Isn’t that how they save the state money?
Seems we get exactly what we pay for.
For ANY organization, even the most rudimentary oversight (requiring expense reports, reviewing spending on credit cards paid by the organization) would not have allowed this.
There are bad apples in every bunch.
Upon realizing she wasn’t complying with the terms of her employment, their initial solution was to change her position to…Chief COMPLIANCE Officer? (When she booked her trip from Florida to India, maybe it was an honest mistake and she just intended to type IndiaNA as the destination!)
So many red flags!!
Where is the legal oversight for the contract?
Why should the taxpayers be liable for transportation costs for Swann to fly back and forth to Florida? Did she forget her job was in Indianapolis??
Basic requirements for any expense should be a receipt and an explanation on why the receipt is job-related.
Who approved and paid the credit card bills? Obviously no one.
I would say I hope both get prosecuted and have to repay the funds they stole, but Ryan Mears. Never going to happen.
