Respectfully, to check crime perhaps the National Guard should be summoned to patrol problem areas. While initially controversial in the nation’s capital, Guard presence offers assurance to citizens and visitors alike. However, one recognized that Indy has much higher crime than DC.
Are you kidding? DC crime rate per capita is in 2024 were much higher than Indy. It has dropped, but I still don’t think it’s as low as Indy. DOGE hacks have made it harder to get more current numbers, because it turns out all those guys really were doing something useful.
National Guard presence in Memphis has made a difference, but it has also drastically increased the “driving while black” incidents, so if there are structural problems to begin with, it just amplifies those. When a significant portion of the population stays home it hurts the whole economy, so be careful what you wish for.
It will be interesting to see this transition without a change in mayor.
