The Indiana Alcohol & Tobacco Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to allow Walgreens Co. to sell alcohol at 14 stores
in Marion County.
Walgreens received
preliminary approval on June 7 from the Local Alcoholic Beverage Board of Marion County, which recommended permits
for 18 of the 28 stores for which the retail chain was seeking to sell alcohol. Four other Marion County Walgreens are still
awaiting approval.
An attorney for the Illinois-based chain said it expected to start selling liquor at the stores within a month of receiving
approval. Altogether, Walgreens wants to sell alcohol in 183 stores throughout the state and has received approval for about
three-fourths of those locations.
