Altice, 54, a 14-year veteran presiding in the Indianapolis courts with experience on the civil and criminal bench, will succeed Judge Ezra Friedlander, who will retire from the COA next month after 22 years on the bench.
Born in Virginia, Altice moved to Missouri, receiving his law degree in 1987 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He served as a deputy prosecutor in Kansas City until 1991, followed by a brief stint in private practice. Altice moved to Indianapolis in 1992 and served in the Marion County prosecutor’s office until his election as judge in 2000.
More information about Altice is available in his application to the Judicial Nomination Commission. The commission last month selected Altice as one of three finalists for Pence’s consideration. Other finalists were Wabash Superior Judge Christopher M. Goff and Marion County public defender Patricia C. McMath.
During an interview with the Judicial Nominating Commission last month, Altice highlighted his work expanding Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative among his accomplishments.
