WISH-TV loses another on-air personality

An award-winning field reporter at WISH-TV Channel 8 has announced her departure, joining a growing list of on-air personalities to leave the station over the past 18 months.

Teresa Mackin will leave WISH in mid-April to take a communications job at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business on the IUPUI campus.

Since joining WISH in early 2012, Mackin has been a reporter during evening and morning newscasts, most recently working on WISH’s Daybreak morning news. She also occasionally filled in on the anchor desk.

Mackin, a Green Bay native who came to WISH from WKOW-TV in Madison, Wisconsin, won two Emmy awards in 2015 and led the station’s coverage of the 2012 Richmond Hills explosion and subsequent court trials of those involved in the deadly blast.

Mackin and officials for WISH could not immediately be reached for comment.

Mackin’s departure comes on the heels of WISH’s loss last month of popular meteorologist Robb Ellis, who left to take a job in his hometown of South Carolina, and sportscaster Amanda Maynard, who left the station to move to Oregon for personal reasons.

In the last 18 months, WISH also has parted ways with anchor Eric Halvorson, news director Steve Bray, investigative reporters Karen Hensel and Troy Kehoe, meteorologist Pamela Gardener, and reporters and  back-up anchors Dustin Grove, Jessica Hayes and Daniel Miller.

Despite losing its CBS affiliation in January 2015, WISH has remained competitive in the city’s ultra-competitive TV news ratings war, holding onto third place in some local news slots in the five-station local TV news market.

More changes could be coming to WISH.

In January, Media General, the Richmond, Virginia-based company that owns the station, completed negotiations to be acquired by Irving, Texas-based Nexstar Broadcasting Group after Nexstar raised its offer price to about $2.3 billion.
