UPDATE: WRTV loses another veteran TV reporter

Longtime local TV news personality Chris Proffitt has left WRTV-TV Channel 6, the station confirmed Wednesday.
 

Proffitt, an award-winning reporter who has worked in the Indianapolis market for more than 26 years, left WRTV last week, according to station general manager Larry Blackerby.
 

Blackerby declined to discuss the reasons for Proffitt’s departure. A replacement hasn’t been hired yet, Blackerby said.
 

Proffitt spent almost five years at WRTV as a reporter and anchor following more than 21 years at WTHR Channel 13.

In an email to IBJ Wednesday afternoon after this story was first published, Proffitt said he was given two weeks' notice and his last day at work was July 27.

"The reasons for my departure are still unclear to me," he wrote. "I'm looking for employment now, in and outside of television. I would like to add that I made many good friends at WRTV and the response from viewers and current and former colleagues on social media and by email has been overwhelming and humbling."

According to an online biography, Proffitt won nine Emmy Awards, a National Headliner award and the National Edward R. Murrow Award during his reporting career.

 

A Fishers resident, Proffitt graduated from Indiana University in 1982.

 

Proffitt is the third veteran on-air personality to leave WRTV in recent weeks.
 

Senior reporter Jack Rinehart retired after nearly 41 years on the air at WRTV on Friday. Rinehart primarily worked the late-afternoon and evening news shifts.

Anchorman Todd Connor ended a nearly six-year run with the station late last month.
