Tabor will become just the fourth president in the organization's 96-year history following Leonard’s retirement in June 2017.
Leonard, IHA’s president since 2007, announced his retirement plans in June.
Tabor joined the staff of IHA in 2008, when he was hired as vice president of government relations. He was promoted to his current role last year. Before joining IHA, he worked as a fiscal analyst in the Indiana State Senate and as a policy director in the Indiana House of Representatives.
“I’m humbled to be chosen to serve as the next president of the Indiana Hospital Association,” Tabor said in a written statement. “Our industry is undergoing rapid change, and it will be a privilege to help shape the direction of health care for hospitals and patients across Indiana.”
The IHA is a not-for-profit trade association that represents more than 170 hospitals around the state.
