Update: Urban Eats, Nook opening in early February; governor to visit Tim Hortons

A couple of updates on downtown debuts:

• Nook plans to open Feb. 6 at 15 E. Maryland St. in the space formerly occupied by Mo’s … A Place for Steaks.

John Vassallo closed Mo’s in October and is replacing it with Nook, a Paleo-influenced diner.

“We’re really going to be focused on healthy food, helping people understand their food stories,” Vassallo told IBJ last month. “We want them coming in and chatting and eating with us and tuning into their bodies, understanding how they feel after they eat different things.”

By “Paleo-inspired,” Vassallo means that people who follow the Paleo diet—with its emphasis on meats, vegetables and other foods that could have been hunted or gathered by our stone-age ancestors—will find plenty they can eat.

• A few blocks away at 250 S. Meridian St., Urban Eats Grill & Cantina is expected to open Feb. 5, says Jessie Perez, who will operate the restaurant with her husband, Marcos.

The menu will be heavy on tacos, although American dishes such as burgers and pastas will be available too, albeit with a Mexican flare, Perez said.

An El Rodeo restaurant formerly occupied the 3,000-square-foot space, but the interior will hardly resemble that of its predecessor, she said.

“It’s been stripped down. It has more of a rustic, chic feel to it,” Perez told Property Lines. “It’s a completely different place than what it was before.”

• Gov. Eric Holcomb will be at Tim Hortons, 8301 Rockville Road, at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday) for the grand opening of the Canadian-based coffee and doughnut chain’s first location in the Indianapolis area.

The firm Luke Family of Brands, which is bringing Tim Hortons to the area, will open four additional stores at:

• 9910 Pendleton Pike on the east side

• 4954 Lafayette Road on the northwest side

• 1805 E. Main St. in Plainfield

• 3300 E. State Road 32 in Westfield

Luke did not return messages seeking opening dates for those stores.

• Kroger is set to open Thursday in the former Marsh space at Boone Village in Zionsville. The Cincinnati-based grocer said it spent $3.8 million to renovate the 26,000-square-foot store.

Hours are 6 a.m. to midnight daily.

• Between Brews Foodwerks has opened at 5328 W. 79th St. east of Zionsville Road in the Park 100 office and industrial park.

As one Yelp reviewer described it, Between Brews is “a gourmet lunching oasis in the middle of a vast desert of warehouses and forklifts.”

Sandwiches, salads and flatbreads are available.

• Triton Brewing Co. at 5764 Wheeler Road in the former Fort Benjamin Harrison has added a bistro featuring small and large plates, in addition to sandwiches, soups and salads.

Closing:

• Subway at 901 Broad Ripple Ave. has shut its doors.
