A Super PAC with ties to Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell is spending $1.4 million on an ad campaign to boost Indiana GOP Senate candidate Mike Braun.

The Senate Leadership Fund on Tuesday announced the campaign, which will run across the state on broadcast TV, cable, radio and online.

Braun is a former state lawmaker and businessman running against vulnerable Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly.

The ad features footage of President Donald Trump praising Braun on stage at an Indiana rally. Trump calls Braun a "special man" and says: "We want people like Mike Braun."

The ad is the latest example of Trump dominating Indiana's Senate race.

Donnelly, too, has portrayed himself in ads as willing to cross the aisle and work with Trump.

McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, said Tuesday that his party is facing a "challenging election."

The "wind's going to be in our face, we don't know if it's going to be Category 3, 4 or 5," McConnell told reporters in Louisville.

He named nine states, including Tennessee and Indiana, as places where Senate races are "dead even."

"Every one of them is like a knife fight in an alley, just a brawl in every one of those places," McConnell said.

Republicans have a slim 51-49 Senate majority, but they have one big advantage in the election. They are defending only nine incumbent seats, while Democrats are defending 26.

McConnell said he hopes "when the smoke clears we'll still have a majority in the Senate."
