David MacAnally“It's a very bittersweet day for us here at Channel 13, for our family, as today we say goodbye to our longtime Nightbeat reporter David MacAnally, who we affectionately call Mac,” WTHR anchor Andrea Morehead said on the air.
WTHR added MacAnally to its news team in September 1986. He spent much of his time as a reporter working on the late-afternoon and evening newscasts. During much of his tenure, WTHR had the highest-rated local evening newscast.
“I've enjoyed my relationship with all of you at Channel 13," MacAnally said in a farewell segment that aired live Tuesday night. "I’m so grateful for all the opportunities the station has given me over the years, and all the places I got to go to. All the people who opened up their stories to me. Tomorrow I’ll be one of the regular viewers at home, and enjoying my favorite news team.”
MacAnally, 61, is a Philadelphia-area native, but said he loves Indianapolis and has no intention of moving. He graduated from Glassboro State College—now Rowan University—in New Jersey.
Before joining WTHR, MacAnally was a general assignment reporter at WLUK-TV in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He started his TV news career at the Nebraska Television Network.
During his tenure at WTHR, MacAnally was nominated for Emmy awards in 1999 and 2000. He was awarded the 1993-94 Best Feature award from the Society of Professional Journalists and the 2000 Associated Press Award for Best General News.
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett stopped by the station Tuesday and declared it "David MacAnally Day" in the city.
