  1. After 4 years of reading and listening about what everybody today acknowledges was FAKE NEWS…Russian Collusion, and last Summers “Peaceful Protest”, the local media has a long way to go in salvaging it’s reputation.

    1. Sorry DonALD F, “everybody” does not acknowledge a presence of fake news within the mainstream media. Vast majority of what can be considered “fake news” is found on social media and far leaning (pick the side) outlets.
Take some responsibility for fact checking. It appears you are the “everybody” who subscribes to the “fake news” content.

And for the record, there is a difference between protest, to which everyone has the right, and vandalism which does on occasion piggyback/take advantage of the situation.

Again, it is up to you to learn the difference.

Don’t blame the local media, which very typically does a very good job of reporting. In fact, by subscribing to the IBJ, you are seeking local news. Indpls Star does an outstanding job of local coverage.

    1. Richard S.: I assure you that offshoring all media is a supremely bad idea. Without local media, Larry Nasser would still be molesting athletes, and countless other local, regional and national stories that have helped preserve our democracy and security.

I will say that I agree that The Star is a shell of its former self. I used to work there, and I’m very glad I moved on. Gannett has not been good for local news in our community. I know there are challenges in the newspaper business as a whole, but it is particularly acute here in Indy. The internet is not as good at local news as it is with national and world news. I too get better local info from IBJ.

    2. A) “Media” is plural. This is not just a grammar observation.
      B) Name a single corrupt thing about John Mutz. Back up your allegation or be known as a smear artist.

    3. All media does not “suck”. The Star has done great investigative reporting on a shoestring. IBJ does a great jobs for local business news.
You’ve fallen for the disinformation campaign instigated by Vladimir and the oligarchs who want to run our country and deprive the ordinary citizen of their right to free speech and voting.

  2. Quality of local news matters as well – the Indy Star used to be something I was happy to pay for to get the local news, since there are plenty of online national news sources to go to. Since being acquired by Gannett it’s turned into a pretty sorry organization that works harder to promote the ideological fads of the day than provide useful and straightforward local reporting.

The IBJ is overall better, although it’s constant flogging of the DIE agenda is done with zero questioning of the core assumptions behind this position at all. Still, I get more interesting local information from this source than the Star by a long shot.

    1. Local ownership of local news is the solution, IMO.

      “DIE Agenda”

Yes, how dare the IBJ cover what’s actually happening in corporate America.

  3. The 2021 global Edelman Trust Barometer found that we are presently in an “era of information bankruptcy” with media being generally viewed (by both sides of the aisle) as incompetent and unethical to varying degrees. Someone has to pay for news coverage and production/distribution (whether by the sale of ads, subscriber fees, through taxpayer dollars, or philanthropic donations). Glad to see John Mutz working to help find a solution. Read the Edelman report here: https://www.edelman.com/trust/2021-trust-barometer
