  1. This bill looks like it was written by a coalition of developers. It is a travesty. Here are some questions.
    1.Who is sponsoring this bill?
    2. Is it based on bills that other states are enacting?
    3. Is Braun in support of this bill?
    4. What evidence demonstrates that we have a housing shortage in Indiana and who complied the evidence?
    5. If we do have a shortage what evidence is there that a reduction in zoning regulation will solve the problem?
    6. Have these loosened restrictions been enacted elsewhere and what was the result?
    Home valuation change?
    Desirability of neighborhoods?
    Quality of construction been affected?
    Impact on schools?

    1. We have lots of houses, they’re just in parts of Indiana where no one wants to live any longer.

And if you live in place where lots of people want to live, a corporation will offer you lots of cash to buy that house and turn it into a rental. (Did for me over a decade ago.)

Maybe increase the property taxes paid by corporate housing owners?

  2. Have you looked at Indy’s schedule of fees for Permits, for Inspections and for Plan Reviews? Some of these doubled last year.
We had an Inspector (contracted by The City) visit monthly watching for grass growth on a project. This went on about a year at
Over $500 per visit. Somebody needs to monitor the reckless fee (tax) increases.

    1. Yet that’s not what they’re doing.

Republicans are all for local control unless they can get paid those sweet, sweet campaign contribution checks to take it away.
