Priority list includes gallery hopping, a TV slime star, more

This week includes the first Friday of April, which of course means gallery hopping. But there's more going on around town as well. Here are some viable options.

IDADA First Friday

Art Openings for this month’s downtown gallery hop include “The Modern Alchemists: New Visions by Artists Emma Overman, Johnny McKee and John Klinkose” at Indiana Landmarks Center; “Sweet Spot” at Gallery 924 featuring about 3,700 ceiling-to-floor nylon cords; paintings and works on paper by Amy Pleasant at iMOCA at the Alexander; and “Color Meditations” by James Wille Faust at iMOCA Fountain Square.

Big Band Week

The Jazz Kitchen celebrates its 22nd anniversary with a series of big band concerts beginning with the 19-member strong Court Basie Orchestra on April 1. The Steve Allee Big Band follows on April2, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music Jazz Orchestra with modern guitarist Fareed Haque plays April 3. And the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra closes things out April 5.

The former Nickelodeon “Double Dare” and Food Network “Unwrapped” host—and Indianapolis native—stars in a one-man show about his life, including his struggle with OCD.

2010 International Violin Competition fo Indianapolis laureate Haoming Xie performers with the Ronen Chamber Ensemble April 5 at the Indiana History Center.

Hans Graf conducts the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and guest violinist James Ehnes on Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” March 31-April 3 at Hilbert Circle Theatre.

Barry Manilow smiles at Bankers Life Fieldhouse March 30.

Bill Wilkison directs Leonard Melfi’s play “Porno Stars at Home” at Theatre on the Square April 1-23.
