Nursing home association facing big debt

The Indiana Health Care Association is looking for a new leader even as it tries to dig out of a pile
of debt. Current President Steve Smith, whose contract expires Nov. 30, says he’s put the organization on a path to be financially stable by 2012. But his predecessor says Smith has ruined a once-strong organization.

South-side landfill gets OK to grow

April 8, 2010

Residents on Indianapolis’ south side say they're not done fighting a proposed landfill expansion in Decatur Township.
The development commission approved a request to rezone land near Kentucky Avenue and Interstate 465, close to the White River.
An existing landfill would be expanded by more than 200 acres. South Side Landfill Inc. said it will install a berm, slurry
wall and a buffer zone of agricultural land to keep trash residue from leaking into the river. The issue heads to the City-County
Council.
