Gas spill forces evacuation in Fishers

September 10, 2012

A gasoline spill in Fishers on Monday morning prompted the evacuation of a nearby medical building and temporarily blocked access to a neighboring shopping center. The spill happened at 10 a.m. at the Ricker's BP gas station at East 116th Street and Cumberland Road. The Fishers Fire Department worked to clean up as much as the spill as possible but as much as 50 gallons may have gone into a storm drain. Officials are trying to determine if there’s a potential danger to local waterways. No injuries were reported.

Four armed robbery suspects arrested

September 6, 2012

Indianapolis police have arrested four suspects in connection with four armed robberies on Labor Day: Elliot Johnson, 20; Shaquille Carter, 19; Brandon Nabors, 18; and a male juvenile. All are from Indianapolis. Three of the robberies happened in the span of several minutes just before 12:30 p.m. Monday near 16th Street and College Avenue. A fourth robbery took place a few hours later. Several victims were beaten and another was struck by a car while riding his bike.
 

TIF district expansion proposal gets committee OK

August 28, 2012

A proposal that would expand a downtown tax-increment financing district to the northeast and northwest was approved Monday by the City-County Council's Metropolitan and Economic Development Committee.

Two die in Boone County crash

Two people were killed in a single-car accident Thursday morning in Boone County near Michigan Road and West 116th Street. Police say the vehicle was traveling on Michigan about 5:30 a.m. when it left the road, hit a pole and burst into flames. Officers closed the road temporarily but reopened a portion of it a short time later. Police say speed may have been a factor in the crash.

Mother arrested after son left in car

July 31, 2012

A Noblesville mother was arrested Monday afternoon after police say she left her 4-year-old son inside a hot car at a Fishers shopping center. Roni Penn, 34, faces a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent for leaving the boy in the car outside the SuperTarget near 116th Street and Interstate 69. Penn said she left the boy alone for about 30 minutes because he didn’t want to go inside. Police said the temperature in the car was at least 100 degrees. The child was checked out by paramedics and released to his father.

A 2-year-old girl was hospitalized Sunday night after being struck by gunfire near West 16th and North Tremont streets. The girl’s mother told police her daughter was in a child seat in the back of a car traveling near the intersection about 11:45 p.m. when she was shot in the leg by someone in another vehicle. Police say the shots were fired from a vehicle belonging to the woman’s ex-boyfriend.
