When Indiana takes center court, it’s a reminder of what makes the state special: strong communities, teamwork and a shared commitment to moving forward together. Those same values have guided STAR Financial Bank for more than eight decades.

“I’ve learned over my career from other long-time bankers that the first rule of community banking is to never forget you’re a community bank,” says Kristin Marcuccilli Green, president of STAR Financial Group and a third-generation member of one of STAR Bank’s founding families. “We exist solely to serve the community.”

Today, with more than $3 billion in assets and 37 banking centers across Indiana, that service means meeting customers wherever they are.

Customers can meet face-to-face with bankers who know their names, use STAR’s convenient ITM technology, Orbi, available six days a week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., or access their accounts digitally anytime, even at 2 a.m. from the couch. It’s an approach that blends modern convenience with the authenticity and trust that define a community bank.

“Every product and program is built for what people need, when they need it,” Green says. “We don’t lose sight of the fact that discussing finances can feel intimidating. Our goal is to make every customer feel seen, known, and heard. They shouldn’t get bounced around.”

PLAYING TO WIN TOGETHER

At STAR Bank, community involvement isn’t performative; it’s purposeful.

Each year, the bank supports more than 80 nonprofit organizations through grants, donations, sponsorships and matching programs. Its philanthropy focuses on three key pillars: education, arts and economic development. Employees are also given paid volunteer time to serve on nonprofit boards and support causes that matter to them. In the past year alone, STAR contributed more than $450,000 to community initiatives and sponsored more than 100 events across Indiana.

“We view ourselves as not just donors, but as true community partners,” says Wright.

That partnership extends beyond financial contributions. Employees logged more than 1,500 volunteer hours during the bank’s most recent STAR Service Day, supporting organizations focused on education, housing and community services.

LEGACY IN THE MAKING

For STAR Bank, the true measure of success isn’t simply growth, it’s the strength of the relationships built along the way.

As a community bank serving businesses and individuals across Indiana, STAR focuses on delivering financial solutions that are both innovative and personal. Whether helping a small business manage cash flow, supporting entrepreneurs as they expand, or guiding families through major financial decisions, the bank’s approach is rooted in accessibility, trust and long-term partnership.

At its core, banking is about helping people navigate life’s most important moments. That may mean planning for a child’s college education, preparing for a wedding, buying a first home, or thoughtfully transitioning a family business to the next generation. STAR positions itself not just as a financial provider, but as a trusted partner, one that walks alongside customers during both milestones and everyday moments, offering clarity, confidence, and guidance when it matters most.

That commitment means customers work with local bankers who understand their markets, respond quickly, and provide thoughtful insight beyond the transaction itself. It’s a model that prioritizes listening first and building solutions that reflect real needs, because no two businesses, families, or life paths are exactly the same.

“We know we’re building healthy, holistic relationships when customers call us about non-banking questions,” adds Kevin Wright, president of STAR Bank and a fourth-generation member of a founding family. “They trust us enough to ask our opinions about things that aren’t on our product sheet. When people know they can rely on you, not just for banking products, but for insight and support, you’ve built something meaningful.”

And as Indianapolis welcomes the nation for one of college basketball’s biggest moments, STAR Bank remains focused on the long game: supporting businesses, strengthening communities, and helping Hoosiers succeed—one relationship, one life event, and one trusted conversation at a time.
