  1. I hope the cronies that run these statist/socialist facilities are willing to stiff the bondholders and not continue to mulct the taxpayers.

  2. Not a single mention of the businesses closed by the physical destruction of downtown. It’s like it never happened and everything is boarded up because of the virus. I’m sure this is all just virus-related.

    1. Joe B do you really think the FFA is going to admit that is part of the problem?

    2. It’s the FFA.

The virus is causing WAY more damage to the Indianapolis downtown area (via wiped out conventions) than any protests, and it will be that way until there’s a vaccine.

  3. Another win for Mayor Joe in his effort to ruin our city.
Watch him tell the police not to enforce the panhandling ban on July 1st.
Covid Joe and the bums love to give Indy and bad rap.

  4. The other shoe will fall when a verdict is rendered or a sentence issued from one of the police officer trials. Invariably someone, or many, won’t like it. Will the Mayor be ready or will more destruction occur?

  5. Joe B is right on. Florida and Texas just shut down again because of COVID not because people being fed up with injustice and redressing these grievances in the street. No organization who is responsible for the health and safety of young people would risk a huge indoor convention. Responsible people acting responsible – that may be a foreign concept to some.
On the other hand, the “deniers” have found another reason to blame all of their imagined problems on the Mayor.
Notwithstanding that, this story confirms what developers of downtown Indy have been saying for years. If you invest in the city, i.e. sports venues, public meeting spaces, hotels, it will lead to an influx of visitors along with their spending. We are in a time period as if we had none of the facilities or events they attract. Zero dollars being spent by tourists means impending huge budget cuts.

  6. Some people focus far too much on the revenues of these conventions and not enough on the costs of this industry to realize it is by no means worth it for the City. Probably the snake oil salesmen behind the whole scheme. Don’t believe me? Show me a tourism agency study or forecast that includes prorated costs against revenue.

Of course, all one has to do is read between the lines of reports issued by the Indiana Finance Authority, and the shadowy actions and behavior of the CIB and ineffectiveness of VisitIndy.

Of course even then, that’s just the stuff you hear about. Not even touching the cronyism of affairs such as the John Dillon issue several years ago, that was promptly swept under the rug.
