While the theory of expanding and extending benefits to more citizens, and very likely non-citizens as well, sounds noble, the reality of accomplishing this has many, serious downsides. We, the nation, are “financially upside down” in a very serious way. The national debt was not sustainable before the pandemic, and it is much more so now. Passing this legislation is essentially ‘taking out a loan” and the only collateral is massive tax increases. There is no other way to service this debt. This will make us a socialist nation, and past and recent history shows fact-based evidence that socialism fails every time. There are many reasons why this is the case, but two that stand out are that federally administered programs are inefficient because of institutionalized work cultures that ignore performance, not to mention the favoritism when awarding service contracts and purchasing products and services, that often is corrupt. Second, because the government, as well as the recipients of the socialistic gifts are “spending other people’s money”, there is little to no concern on how the funds are used. Neither the government nor the recipients consider waste, corruption, inefficiency, or how to get the most bang for the buck, because they did nothing to produce what is being taken from the producers and used for socialist distribution. In an age when “sustainability” is the big buzz word, spending another 6 trillion dollars, and expanding the national debt is NOT SUSTAINABLE. Our communist/totalitarian enemies in China and Russia don’t worry about nuking us any longer. We are “nuking” ourselves with economic policies that are not sustainable. Private donations set an all-time record high in the U.S. in 2020, amidst a shattered economy. Americans are willing to step up to help those in need without the politicized, inefficient federal government being involved. Regardless of what political party you favor, write your congressional representatives and senators to tell them if they vote for another 6 trillion of spending, you will never vote for them again.
