Partner, Ice Miller LLP
As a partner in Ice Miller’s Public Finance Group, Michael Allen assists clients in navigating the state and federal rules and regulations involved in financing public projects and improvements. His project areas include affordable housing, senior living facilities, municipal water and wastewater/sewage utilities, colleges and universities, and airports. Among the projects he’s worked on are financing for the new Indianapolis airport terminal, the renovations of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and a new hospital in Bloomington.
Getting here: After finishing his undergraduate degree, Allen took a year off to travel internationally, then attended Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He had a summer internship in Fort Wayne at what was then Baker & Daniels and started his legal career there before moving to Ice Miller in 2012.
First job: He mowed lawns, pulled weeds and raked leaves in his neighborhood.
Proud moment: Allen has worked on many transactions that have financed affordable, low-income, multifamily housing developments in and around Indianapolis and the country. A few local examples are 800 N. Capitol Ave., Monon Place at 16th Street and the Monon, and Penn Towers at 16th and Pennsylvania streets.
Influential people: His mother, Pauletta Allen, a single parent of two children who provided for the family “on the meager salary of a public educator.”
