According to unofficial results reported by WSBT-TV, Buttigieg, an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for state treasurer last year, had 73 percent of the votes cast Tuesday, with 81 percent of the precincts reporting. Curry had 20 percent of the vote and Libertarian Patrick Farrel had 7 percent.
The race was relatively quiet and Buttigieg was widely expected to win. The last Republican to be elected mayor of the northern Indiana City was Lloyd Allen in 1967.
Mayor Stephen Luecke decided not to seek re-election after 14 years of leading Indiana's fourth-largest city.
