The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana has named longtime member Frank Young as its interim executive director.

The civil rights group announced the appointment Monday. Young replaces Gilbert Holmes, who was director from 2008 until his retirement on March 31.

Young has been involved with the ACLU since the 1970s and served on its board of directors from 2002 to 2005. The Terre Haute resident also served on the board of the ACLU of Illinois.

Young was head of the computer science department at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology from 1987 to 2002, and remains a professor emeritus at the Terre Haute school.

Young is taking over during an expansion made possible by a $500,000 donation from the estate of Albert and Sara Reuben.
