Dr. Anantha Shekhar became executive associate dean for research affairs at the Indiana University School of Medicine on Aug. 1, replacing Dr. David Wilkes, who was recently named dean of the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Shekhar, a psychiatrist, will retain his other roles as IU’s associate vice president for university clinical affairs, as executive vice president of academic affairs for clinical research at Indiana University Health hospital system, and as director of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. Shekhar also co-founded a startup drug company called Anagin LLC. Shekhar earned a bachelor’s degree at St. Joseph's College, did his medical training at St. John's Medical College, and earned his doctorate at the IU medical school. He has been on the faculty there since 1989.

Eskenazi Health has named Donna Burks its associate chief nursing officer for primary care. Burks has worked at Eskenazi, previously known as Wishard, for more than 20 years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Marian University.

AFC/Doctors Express, which operates two urgent care centers in Indianapolis, has hired Dr. Roger Spahr to work at its Lawrence location. Spahr was most recently medical director and chief science officer at nutraMetrix, a division of Market America, in Greensboro, North Carolina. A Hoosier native, Spahr received a bachelor’s degree in biology and medical technology from Ball State University and a medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Spahr is also an associate clinical professor of family medicine at the IU medical school.
