Pizza restaurant ends seven-year run in Fletcher Place

Locally based South of Chicago Pizza & Beef has closed its restaurant at 619 Virginia Avenue in Fletcher Place, leaving it with one location, in Greenwood.

In a Facebook post dated July 4, restaurant owners said the space that it had occupied for seven years has been leased to someone else.

The restaurant was housed in the Renna Building, which dates to 1911.

Layton John of SJB Properties, which recently acquired the property, could not be reached for comment on the restaurant’s departure.

South of Chicago owner Bob Jaeger and the landlord had been squabbling over the lease for the space.

John told IBJ in early June that South of Chicago has been operating on a month-to-month lease and was having problems keeping up with rent. He said he was hoping to iron out a better lease with the restaurant.

Jaeger said the Greenwood location at 2550 S. State Road was doing well. South of Chicago previously had Fishers and Noblesville locations, which have closed.
