PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division plans to spend $159 million to expand its facilities in Indiana, boosting employment and snack production at its already-sizable operations in Clinton County.

The nation’s largest snack food company plans to add two production lines, warehouse space and 50 employees in Frankfort, about 45 miles northwest of Indianapolis, state and county officials announced Monday.

The expansion will add 210,000 square feet of space in Frankfort, where Frito-Lay already has two manufacturing sites, 17 production lines and 1,100 employees over 135 acres of facilities.

Frito-Lay has produced snack food in Frankfort for more than 30 years.

“Frito-Lay’s significant financial investment and desire to create more jobs are shining examples of their continuing commitment to thrive and succeed here while strengthening our local economy and enhancing our industrial workforce and their employees’ quality of life,” said Chris McBarnes, the mayor of Frankfort, a city with a population of about 16,400.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Frito-Lay up to $550,000 in conditional tax credits based on the job-creation plans.

The city of Frankfort agreed to provide the company additional real property and personal property tax breaks.
