    1. Last election, 38% of Hoosier votes cast in congressional elections favored Democrats, but gerrymandering limited Democrats to 22% of the Hoosier delegation. Now, mid-decade, they want to reduce that to 0%. And yet, Braun claims he wants to protect Hoosiers from efforts “that seek to diminish their voice in Washington.”

    2. Republicans got 58.6% in the last presidential race.
      They currently have 78% of the Congressional seats in Indiana.

      Their claim is, hence, based on those first two numbers, they’re entitled to 100% of the seats because they’re under-represented based on congressional district lines that Republicans drew just four years ago when they got 57% of the presidential vote. Picking up 1.6% more Hoosiers entitles them to 22% more congressional representation.

      With math like this, it becomes more clear as to why Republicans always blow up the federal deficit when you give them control of the executive and legislative branch branches.

  1. It’s too bad our elected officials won’t come clean with us … just tell us, it was made clear to us that if we didn’t do this, our opportunities at receiving federal funds would be dramatically reduced. And since Indiana is a state that gets more in funds from the federal government than it sends to Washington, we have no choice but to comply with the wishes of Dear Leader. Which is why we can’t even bother with the charade of public input and hearings on these new maps, and we must immediately do his bidding.

    1. You’re projecting. The first rule of today’s Republican Party is to accuse the other side of what you either are guilty of or going to do.

So will this Special Session be happening before or after the special sessions to address our failing public school systems, stabilize IN Medicaid programs (serving more than a quarter of the population), reduce maternal mortality, rationalize gun safety, and promote job training and development for the new tech/AI economy?

  3. My father, who served in WW II, all of 18 yrs old stationed somewhere in the Pacific in a combat position, exhibited more courage than our Governor and members of our General Assemby.

  4. Stupid idea. No matter how the new lines are drawn, I suspect those who are registered Republicans who tend towards leaning right, but not far right, as well as Independents, will seriously consider sending a message about this infantile move during the next election. There are too many voters of both parties, considered in the middle and not extreme loyalists, who have a lot more common sense about this issue than the current Federal l leadership. The current boundaries seem to be drawn fairly and were completed by a Republican super majority in recent years.

    1. The current lines are horribly partisan—that’s the point. But they want even MORE stilted representation.

      It’s a horribly idea. Stop the steal. The courts will likely settle this.

    2. The courts have already weighed in and OK’d this.

      It shall continue as long as legislators are allowed to use all the data (race, gender, voter registration, past election results, etc) … and the odds of legislators taking that away from themselves? Zero.

I believe gerrymandering of congressional districts is one of the root causes of a congress that has devolved into partisanship and loyalty to political party over loyalty to all of their constituents. George Washington in his farewell address said ” However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion. “

    1. But you will be canceled for repeating that…just as Canada was canceled for replaying St. Ronnie’s recorded remarks on tariffs.

  7. Mitch had enough courage to come out against redistricting.

    I suspect Steven C. may be right: principled conservatives and moderates will see right through this, and it only takes a few percentage point swing to negate the best laid plans of the MAGA crew. Remember…this state voted for Obama once.

    1. That’s great for Mitch. Has he called all 39 Republicans and lobbied them personally? It’s easy to have courage when you’re retired and no one in the current Republican Party cares what you have to say.

      I don’t think Mitch Daniels Republicans matter, or really exist any longer. Look at the election results. Democrats pull the same 40-42%. The only thing that makes Republican results dip is the presence of a Libertarian.
