Thieves, a bar that’s operated since 2020 at 915 Broad Ripple Ave., will relocate to 854 Broad Ripple Ave. this summer.
Owner Kristen Alderson said Thieves will occupy twice the amount of space in the storefront at the corner of Broad Ripple and Guilford avenues than its current 1,200-square-foot spot between Union Jack Pub and Sushi Bar.
“It’s the perfect space for us to grow,” Alderson said.
Thieves also will expand its hours, opening at 8 a.m. rather than in the afternoon.
“With the previous tenant, Starbucks, being in there for 25 years, people are so used to getting coffee at that corner,” Alderson said. “It made sense to expand the operation to include coffee in the morning.”
Before Starbucks opened at 854 Broad Ripple Ave. in 1999, the building was home to Abigail’s dress shop.
Alderson said Thieves will source its coffee from Indianapolis-based roaster Hubbard & Cravens.
Regarding the coffee-to-cocktails concept, Alderson cited Almost Famous, 721 Massachusetts Ave., and Parlor Public House, 600 E. Ohio St., as two businesses that popularized the format locally. Almost Famous opened in 2020, followed by Parlor Public House in 2021.
Alderson, a Franklin Community High School alum who worked for a software startup before founding the cocktail bar, said food will be a prominent component of the new Thieves.
“We will offer a light, easy menu,” she said. “I describe it as ‘everything but dinner.’ We’re hoping to accomplish breakfast, light lunch, charcuterie and desserts.”
Alderson said she would like Thieves to complete its move by June.

Very cool!
Much better location for Thieves. I’ve been to that building when it was Triton years back and it is a very, very small space. They may lose out a bit on patio space, but they’ll have much more room inside.
