At what point is Ballard to blame for the personnel mess of the Colts???
At what point to people realize it’s also the fault of his boss, and the Colts have never been good when Jim had an active hand in running the team?
While Ballard certainly shares the blame on the quarterback situation over the last few years, he certainly has handled the Taylor situation professionally and in the best interest of the Colts. When was the last time a running back was relevant to a team’s success in making the playoffs, winning a conference title or a Super Bowl? Quarterbacks, defenses, receivers/tight ends and offensive lines have all been more important then the running back position. In 2021, Taylor had a career year (1,800+ yards rushing and 20 TDs) but the Colts finished 9-8 and missed the playoffs by losing the last two games of the year. This demonstrates the impact a running back does not have on the success of a team, overall.
If Taylor doesn’t want to end up like Laveon Bell he better get his pads on and start playing. He has no leverage. The Colts owe him nothing at this point other than this year’s salary. They can hang on to him for 2 more years, plus they need to see how he comes back from the injury. Ballard is absolutely doing the right thing for the Colts. Would be completely stupid to hand out guaranteed money when they don’t need to. I think he has learned the past couple years that was a mistake. Several offensive lineman haven’t performed and we may never see Shaq Leonard perform at an all pro level again.
I’m sure JT won’t read these comments, but we all want him back this year, and hopefully into the future! With a new wife, new manager-agent, new coach, and +-$5M salary this year, it may be a tough decision, but with one year left in his contract, he needs to stay now and fight out the contract or trade next year. If Irsay would tag him for the +-$10 going rate, it’s still cheaper than $22M for kicker Gay that missed his first Colts FG, cheaper than Leonard’s $99M contract (who’s been injured ever since), cheaper than Matt Ryan’s exit at +-$23M, cheaper than Richardson’s $21M signing bonus, and so on. Irsay’s rock and roll concert costs would probably also cover JT’s tag costs.
Let keep JT here, and maybe JT just needs play out his current contract and prove his value!
I can see both sides position here. I think there could be away to meet in the middle. JT has definitely shown he’s worth every penny but at the sometime, he’s been injured and The Colts have a legit concern to wonder how he’ll perform after an ankle injury. Maybe JT could take his current contract, play good this year and get a huge bonus at the end of the season and then a huge contract exstension for next season. Im certain that every possible senerio has been discussed and if no rock has been left unturned and everything possible has been done to make a deal, then let JT go,
