Any good ideas of making a change in state law on how to replace a vacant mayoral office?
Mayors in Indiana are typically elected less on partyID and more on local/personal campaigning and relationships than any other office – and was especially true in Ft Wayne. Now, there is a mayor that was caucused by a party serving basically an entire 4-yr term without any say from voters.
Seems like it’s there to avoid spontaneous costs to the city/county of another election, but surely there are alternatives, like state support, to avoid having a strict party apparatus appoint a city executive for four years, without any intervening say from voters.
More important is for the state to have a referendum process so that each citizen may vote on key issues.
Second the process of passing laws should be revised to require a majority or supermajority in each house.
