Featured Issue: “If elected, how would you approach making health care more affordable?”

As a proud Democrat running for Congress, I believe health care is a fundamental human right, not a privilege for those who can afford it.

In Indianapolis and across Indiana, too many working families still struggle with high costs, medical debt and gaps in coverage — especially during this current administration’s recession, when job losses and rising prices make every bill feel heavier. [Editor’s note: The economy has not met the official definition of a recession.]

My top priority is ensuring affordable and accessible health care for all. That starts with strengthening the Affordable Care Act, lowering prescription drug prices through aggressive Medicare negotiation and pushing for a strong public option.

But we must go further: I strongly support expanding Medicaid to cover all prenatal mothers so every pregnant woman in Indiana receives quality prenatal care, regardless of income.

Healthy pregnancies mean healthier babies and stronger families. No Hoosier mother should worry about affording doctor visits or essential screenings while bringing new life into the world.

Beyond prenatal care, I am committed to making Medicaid work better for all Americans who need it.

We must protect and expand this vital program so it truly serves as a safety net during tough economic times like the recession we face today. Families hit by layoffs or rising costs should never have to skip medications or delay care.

I will also fight to make drug prices truly affordable. Big Pharma has charged Americans far too much
for too long. In Congress, I will support bold action to cap out-of-pocket costs and bring down prices on life-saving medications — relief that is especially urgent
now when recession pressures are squeezing household budgets.

Hoosiers deserve a representative who will stand up to powerful interests and deliver real solutions. Whether it’s prenatal Medicaid expansion, broader access through Medicaid or lowering drug costs, my focus remains on working families in Indianapolis and across our state. Health care should never bankrupt a family or stand in the way of a healthy future.

Together, we can build a system that puts people first. I humbly ask for your support as we work toward a healthier, fairer Indiana. You can go to my website denisepaulhatch.com to learn more about legislative health care for all.•
