  1. So basically the tax payers get to pay so the system can be rigged even more than it is. No wonder people are giving up on democracy as a form of “self rule”. Its a joke.

  2. Maybe we can hope the votes stay “not there”. Braun gets to appease the master and Hoosier republican politicians get to prove that they are stil more reasonable than in many other states. Fingers crosssed. The bad news – us taxpayers foot the bil for all the nonsense, regardless.

    1. If there really are any true, principled Republicans still holding office, it is long past time for them to speak up, both at the Statehouse and in Washington. The Constitution, American values and global trust are all in tatters, and elected Republicans could have stopped the destruction, but cheered it on or stayed silent. Sen. Young very quietly commented on behalf of not silencing Jimmy Kimmel, but that’s about it among elected Republicans. From the sidelines, Our Man Mitch wrote an op-ed on redistricting — we’ll see if he has any influence anymore as a principled Republican.

  3. This is just political theater, I suspect to appease the MAGA crowd. The Indiana State Constitution says in Article 4, Section 5:

“The General Assembly elected during the year in which a federal decennial census is taken shall fix by law the number of Senators and Representatives and apportion them among districts according to the number of inhabitants in each district, as revealed by that federal decennial census. The territory in each district shall be contiguous.
    (History: As amended March 14, 1881; November 6, 1984)”

    Clearly midterm reddistricting is unconstitutional.

    1. Isn’t that language referring to the Indiana Senators and Reps and not the Congressional reps? Perhaps that’s the loophole.

    2. Hmmm…. That is very possible. But since it doesn’t say “state” senator or representative, it could be interpreted either way.

    3. Mike M: federal and state redistricting lines have always been drawn simultaneously. The Constitution doesn’t separate the tasks or the outcomes.

If a sitting federal or state judge doesn’t heavily-consider that precedent…..dig a hole and jump in.

    4. Rick, the past is irrelevant to this administration because they also control the courts. Also, what’s to prevent the legislature from making minor (or no) tweaks to the Indiana legislative districts but major changes to the Congressional districts?

  4. I want my party back. The Republican party today is nothing like it used to be. Don’t worry about something being “Constitutional”. Laws don’t matter anymore.

    1. I’m far from a Republican but I had mad respect for Eric Holcomb and Mitch Daniels. They avoided most of the social insanity and focused on economy. They had principles.

Braun’s INGOP is just smash and crash, let-it-burn politics as a means to achieve an unclear end!

  5. How dumb do they think we are by creating drama and pretending they are doing the appropriate deliberation when it’s clear they will end up licking the Trump bootstraps.
The Trump guidebook is to destroy all of our cherished institutions. This move along with the disenfranchisement of so many voters makes us no better than the banana republics we’re so quick to criticize.

    1. TRUMP’s MAGA MAGOTS CULT does not want our Federal Government to be functional . That would interfere with their dear leader’s grifter scams making himself richer .
