  1. Mickey, I’m surprised you didn’t offer some alternatives. Chiefly, Invesco ETF S&P 500 *EQUAL WEIGHTED* (symbol RSP). As the name implies, every stock comprises 100%/500 = 0.2%, so no top-heavy problems with the biggest companies. Many investors put 5%-20% in foreign ETF (ex-USA) – the least volatile would a developed country ETF, which is mostly Europe and much of Asia. (Some examples I’ve used are VANGUARD INTL EQUITY INDEX FDS FTSE EUROPE ETF [VGK] and VANGUARD TOTAL INTERNATIONAL STOCK INDEX FUND [VXUS}).

    I understand some/ most of these may not be available in a plain vanilla 401k at work, but many investors have moved their old 401k into a rollover IRA and/ or have Traditional and Roth IRAs where they are available.
