As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowPlainfield-based e-commerce logistics provider IDS Fulfillment has been acquired by DHL Supply Chain, the companies announced Tuesday.
Founded in 1960, IDS offers fulfillment services and transportation management, shipping 50,000 packages daily.
The deal gives DHL more than 1.3 million additional square feet in warehouse and distribution space across the country, including facilities in Indianapolis and Plainfield as well as Salt Lake City, Utah, and Atlanta, Georgia.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. DHL did not respond to questions from IBJ on Tuesday morning.
IDS facilities will continue to operate under existing local leadership, according to a news release.
Kraig Foreman, president of e-commerce for DHL Supply Chain North America, told industry newletter SupplyChainDive that the deal would bring more than 50 new customers and about 500 new employees to DHL.
IDS says packages shipped from its 780,000-square-foot Indianapolis facility, 9431 Allpoints Pkwy. in Plainfield, can reach nearly 90% of the U.S. population east of the Rocky Mountains within two days.

DHL Supply Chain is a unit of DHL Group, a Bonn, Germany-based logistics company with more than 500,000 employees worldwide. The company offers air, ocean and road freight services, as well as mail and parcel services, international express and contract logistics.
The IDS acquisition marks DHL Supply Chain’s second e-commerce acquisition this year. The company also acquired Inmar’s return processing operation.
