Here’s an idea – rather than defund IPS, let the charter schools have all the money that can be recovered from this criminal endeavor.
$85 million stolen and no one really cares. It’s amazing.
Another example of WHY more regulation and ovewrsight of the charters in needed. Key word was a failed charter, then the criminal activity in form of theft of monies that could support and improvew our public education system. Public education was a key thought of importance in all of the founding fathers. Who decided to just let charters come and go and drain money from public education. Serious controls are essential.
defund IPS and shut it down.
Make Bob Behning step up from his virtual school he runs at Marian and run all of IPS. He can be in charge of IPS with all of his donors. Better still, tie all their salaries to student outcomes. Kids do poorly, he doesn’t get paid. Make them have some “skin in the game”.
Be a trailblazer and prove their model works better over 5-10 years, then roll it out elsewhere in Indiana.
Interesting comment following an article about how folks running a charter school stole from the state of Indiana, and from the students they were supposed to be educating. Suggesting once again the charter/voucher lobby doesnt’ care if students don’t really get educated; they just want to attack IPS and the teachers union.
Don’t discount the fact that more than one charter operator has found a way to make obscene salaries/profits personally through “nonprofit” schools, while not improving student outcomes one bit.
