Dr. Nitesh Gadeela, an interventional cardiologist, has joined Community Physician Network in Franklin. He previously had a private practice in Virginia. Gadeela completed medical school at Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India.

Dr. Matthew Welsch, an orthopedic surgeon who focuses on injuries to shoulders, arms and hands, has joined Community Physician Network, with offices in Indianapolis and Noblesville. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He completed his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. William VanNess submitted his resignation last week as Indiana’s health commissioner, but plans to stay in his role until Gov. Mike Pence finds a replacement, according to the Associated Press. VanNess was appointed by Pence in January, a month after retiring as CEO of Community Hospital of Anderson.

Dr. Isra’a Khan, a pediatric hospitalist at Community Hospital North, has joined Community Physician Network. She received her medical degree at Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan.

Suburban Health Organization named Dr. Craig Wilson chief medical officer. He will work to develop new ways for county-owned and not-for-profit hospitals in the organization to integrate their health care operations. Wilson previously served as chief medical officer of St. Vincent Fishers Hospital. He holds an undergraduate degree in medicine from the University of Queensland, Australia, and a master’s degree in health science from Duke University.

Jiali Han has been named the Rachel Cecile Efroymson Professor in Cancer Research at the IU Simon Cancer Center. Han came to the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI last year from Harvard Medical School, where he was an associate professor of dermatology and medicine. Han is chairman of the Department of Epidemiology at the Fairbanks school of public health, and intends to hire three additional faculty members to his department. Han earned his doctorate in biological sciences in public health from Harvard University.

Community Health Network named Julie O’Toole its vice president of patient experience, focused on access and service. O’Toole has worked at Community for six years as director of practice excellence at Community Physician Network. She will continue that work, in addition to her duties across the Community hospital network. O’Toole holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in organizational leadership.

She most recently served as practice administrator for Community Physician Network’s OB/GYN Care, Gynecologic Cancer Care, and Hepatobiliary Surgical Care. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from IUPUI.

Gwen O’Malley has been named vice president of practice operations at Community Physician Network.  Most recently, O’Malley served as executive director of primary care for Community Physician Network. She earned a bachelor’s degree at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and a master’s degree at IUPUI.

Chad Ashcraft has been hired as vice president of innovation at Indianapolis-based OurHealth, which operates on-site health care clinics for employers. Ashcraft previously worked in sales for Thunderhead.com, Toovio Software, Chordiant Software and IBM. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from DePauw University and a master’s degree in information science from Ball State University.

Indianapolis-based Maetrics LLC, a life sciences consulting firm, appointed R.J. Lemieux as vice president of sales. He previously worked at Boston-based RM Nephew & Associates LLC and Ernst & Young. Lemieux earned a bachelor’s degree at Hobart College and an MBA at Bentley University.

Dr. Erik Cox, a pediatrician, has joined Community Physician Network in Anderson. He earned his medical degree at the IU School of Medicine.

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration appointed Joseph Moser to serve as Indiana Medicaid director, beginning Nov. 18. Moser spent the last five years as director of government affairs and interim executive director for Medicaid Health Plans of America, a national trade association. Moser is a graduate of Marian University in Indianapolis.

Dr. Joshua Kluetz, a family and sports medicine physician, has been hired by Community Physician Network. He did his medical training at Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Indianapolis-based OurHealth, which operates employer-sponsored health clinics, has hired Ashley Davis as its in-house graphical designer. She holds a master’s degree in design from IUPUI and a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University of Chicago.

Brandon Rogers has joined OurHealth as a senior engineer for information technology systems. He previously worked for Indianapolis-based consulting firm The Brookfield Group.

Over the next year, the six Daughters of Charity nuns who serve at Indianapolis-based hospital system St. Vincent Health leave to serve other areas. The sisters are Mary Kay Tyrell, Louise Busby, Rita Joyce DiNardo, Mary Satala, Mary Powers and Cecilia Ann West. In their place, St. Vincent and its parent, St. Louis-based Ascension Health, will use formation programs to train up lay leaders in the values of the Catholic church and the sisters’ tradition. Also, Sister Mary Kay Tyrell will continue to serve on the St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital and Foundation boards, and Sister Renee Rose will serve as a member of the St. Vincent Health board.

Dr. Daniel Kim, a neurosurgeon, has joined Community Physician Network, treating patients in Indianapolis and Anderson. Kim, a former attorney at the Indianapolis law firm Ice Miller LLP, received his medical degree from the Indiana Unviersity School of Medicine.

Steven Jones has been promoted to vice president of human resources for the Indiana University Health hospital system. An IU Health veteran for the past decade, Jones most recently served as executive director of talent management and diversity. Jones has a bachelor’s in economics from Wabash College.

Dr. Barbara Sturm, a dermatologist, has joined Franciscan Physician Network. She previously operated an independent practice, Dermatology of Stones Crossing, which was affiliated with Franciscan St. Francis Health. Sturm has a bachelor’s in biochemistry from Purdue University and a medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Murphy will come to IU Health on July 22 from Northwestern Memorial HealthCare in Chicago, where he has most recently been chief operating officer. Murphy holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master's degree in health care administration from Duke University.

Dr. Laryn Peterson, an ear, nose and throat specialist, has joined Community Physician Network in Indianapolis. She completed her medical degree at the IU medical school.

Simpkin previously was senior vice president of the consulting practice at Valence Health in Chicago. She holds a master’s degree in health care economics from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s degree from Bradley University.

Dr. James Callahan, the former chief of neurosurgery at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, has joined Community Physician Network and is now working at Community Hospital Anderson. Callahan, who was formerly part of the neurosurgery practice of Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine, earned his medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Kay Eigenbrod, an OB-GYN, has joined St. Vincent Medical Group in Indianapolis. She was chief of obstetrics and gynecology at St. Vincent Frankfurt Hospital. Eigenbrod holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Dr. Thomas Howard, a specialist in liver, pancreas and gallbladder diseases, has joined Community Physician Network in Indianapolis. He earned his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma. He has been a professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a physician at the IU Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center.

Community Physician Network has Dr. Carl Pafford, a family medicine physician, in Fishers. He received his bachelor’s degree at Purdue University and completed his medical education at Indiana University School of Medicine. Pafford previously practiced family and emergency medicine in Tipton.

Dr. Matthew Rendel, a neurosurgeon, has joined Community Physician Network. He holds a medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Rendel provides care at Community Hospital South and Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

Community Physician Network has added Dr. Xian-Feng Zhu, an internal medicine physician, in Indianapolis. He completed his medical degree at Zhejiang Medical University in China. Before coming to Community, he practiced for seven years as a general internist in Marshalltown, Iowa.

St. Vincent Health named Julie Carmichael as its chief strategy officer for the 22-hospital system, starting Dec. 31. Carmichael succeeds Kevin Speer, who left St. Vincent in November to become CEO of Hendricks Regional Health in Danville. Carmichael worked the past 19 years as CEO of the Suburban Health Organization, a partnership of several Indianapolis-area hospital systems, including St. Vincent Health. She holds a bachelor’s degree Stanford University and an MBA from Indiana University.

Dr. Jonathan Ting, an otolaryngologist, has joined Wishard Health Services. He received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario.

Dr. David K. Booth, a family medicine physician, has joined Community Physicians Network, a subsidiary of Indianapolis-based Community Health Network, after practicing privately in Meadville, Pa. He earned his medical degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pa.

Dr. Michael DaRosa, a primary care sports medicine physician, has joined Community Physician Network in Greenwood. He completed his medical degree at Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Vin Gupta, a pediatric hospitalist, has joined Community Hospital North in the Castleton neighborhood. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio.

Dr. Syeda Naqvi, a geriatrician, has joined Community Physician Network. She completed her medical degree at Sind Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan.

Dr. Nicole Zulkowski, a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, has joined the Community Spine Center in Greenwood. She earned her medical degree at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Union Health System Inc. in Terre Haute named Patrick S. Board as its CEO.  Board succeeds David Doerr, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Board has been CEO of Union Health’s physician group, called Union Associated Physicians Clinic LLC, in Terre Haute. Starting Jan. 1, Board will oversee both the Union physician practice and Union Hospital, which will continue to be led by Scott Teffeteller. Board received a bachelor’s degree in business from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., and a master’s degree in hospital and healthcare administration from the University of Minnesota.

Sam Odle, a former longtime executive of Methodist Hospital and Indiana University Health, is joining the Indianapolis-based lobbying firm Bose Public Affairs Group LLC. As a senior policy adviser, Odle will work mostly with clients in the health care and life sciences industries. Odle, 63, most recently served as chief operating officer at IU Health and CEO of Methodist and University hospitals before retiring in July. Replacing Odle as the head of Methodist and University hospitals will be Jim Terwilliger. He joined IU Health in June 2011 as vice president for cancer services after serving as executive vice president for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Cancer Centers in Pittsburgh.

Dr. Esther Adade, a family physician, has joined Community Physician Network in Greenwood.  She received a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry from the University of California and completed her medical degree at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
