Teen shot in head on east side

August 6, 2012

A 13-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the head and thigh Sunday night near East Washington Street and Sherman Drive. The shooting took place about 9 p.m. in the 100 block of North Denny Street. Indianapolis police investigating a report of gunshots found the teen in an alley.
 

Two injured in overnight fire

August 6, 2012

Two residents suffered minor injuries early Monday morning in an apartment fire near Beech Grove. Eight residents were displaced by the fire, which broke out about 3 a.m. in the 3100 block of East Bradbury Avenue. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
 

Thousands still without power

August 6, 2012

At least 3,200 Indianapolis Power & Light customers were still without electricity Monday morning, a day after Sunday’s pre-dawn storm swept through the north side, bringing down trees and power lines. At the height of the outage, 32,000 customers were without power. Some local retailers operated on a cash-only basis Sunday because their cash registers didn’t work. IPL said numerous utilities are helping with repairs.

Couple works to bring good from wedding day crash

Tom and Lauren Hanley's wedding day turned tragic two years ago when a traffic accident killed a groomsman and injured others in their bridal party. The Indianapolis couple is now using some of their settlement in a lawsuit from the crash to support a mutual passion.

City to consider connectors for downtown garage

The developer of a five-story parking garage downtown is seeking city approval to build two upper-level pedestrian connectors to offer easier access to the garage, especially for employees of nearby OneAmerica Financial Partners Inc.

Indiana farmers worried about what to do with their withered corn crops will gather in Vigo County this week to discuss crop insurance, cattle feeding options, and other topics related to the drought. Purdue University agricultural experts say some crops already are beyond saving.

Daniels still waiting on lobbying decision

Questions remain whether Indiana’s governor will be covered by the state’s “revolving door” law when he becomes president of Purdue University. State ethics rules require a one year cool-down period for public officials after leaving office, preventing them from working as lobbyists.

Refinery problems, spill drive up Great Lakes gas

Several Great Lakes states have seen prices surge about 40 cents per gallon in the last week. That follows a pipeline rupture and shutdown in Wisconsin and equipment problems at refineries in Indiana and Illinois.

Dead body found in truck

August 3, 2012

Indianapolis police say a person found dead Friday morning in the sleeper cab of a semi parked on the city’s southwest side likely died of natural causes—possibly more than a week ago. An employee for the Kenworth of Indianapolis service center in the 2900 block of Holt Avenue found the body while investigating a foul odor. Employees say the truck may have been there since July 25. Police are investigating.
 

Man critical after east-side shooting

August 3, 2012

A man was critically wounded in a shooting Thursday evening on the east side of Indianapolis. Dion Bunch, 37, was shot about 8 p.m. in the 3500 block of North Butler Avenue near 38th Street and Emerson Avenue. Witnesses said Bunch was standing in the middle of the street when a person got out of a black SUV, shot him, and then drove away.
 

More parents arrested for leaving kids in car

August 3, 2012

Two parents were arrested Thursday afternoon on the city’s west side after their four children were discovered inside a hot car with the windows rolled up while the pair shopped for groceries. Mohammad Abdulaziz, 30, and Nasebah Khiat, 24, both face neglect charges. The children, ranging from 3 months to 5 years old, did not suffer serious injuries. An employee in a business near the grocery store in the 1200 block of South High School Road alerted authorities. Temperatures exceeded 90 degrees Thursday.

The Indianapolis hotel market is poised to record a 10.8-percent increase in revenue per available room in 2012, according to projections from PKF Consulting. The city's hosting of the Super Bowl gave the market a huge, early lift.

Carmel looks at $195 million refinancing package

The Carmel City Council will consider backing a $195 million debt re-issue, which would free up millions of dollars for further development of the massive City Center project.
