A Marion County Sheriff's Office sergeant said he was forced to shoot his police dog, and now the shooting is under investigation by his own department and the Hancock County Sheriff's Department. The dog, Paco, died after Sgt. Tom Shambaugh shot it twice with a shotgun. Shambaugh said he feared for his safety because the dog was agitated and aggressive after it escaped from its kennel. Officials are investigating to see if the shooting was appropriate.
Carmel police are looking for two suspects after an armed robbery. The victims told police that a brown Chevrolet Impala pulled up next to them at 10801 N. Michigan Road Tuesday night. Two men with guns got out of the car and demanded money. After the victims handed over a wallet and purse, the men drove away. No one was injured.
A 23-year-old man was rushed to a hospital early Thursday after he was shot in the head outside a strip club on the east side of Indianapolis. Two men were arrested Tuesday and charged in connection with multiple residential burglaries in Fishers and Carmel. Cousins John Maryfield, Jr., 28, and Derrick Maryfield, 23, both of Indianapolis, were apprehended after a witness called police about a burglary in progress in a neighborhood near 141st Street and Cumberland Road. Police say the pair may be responsible for at least six burglaries or burglary attempts in Fishers this month. Carmel police and Hancock County officials are looking into whether the brothers committed similar crimes in their areas.
Firefighters from three counties helped extinguish a fire that consumed multiple mobile homes Wednesday morning in Hendricks County, displacing five families. Five mobile homes were either destroyed or damaged in the fire that broke out at Sti-Bel Mobile Home Park in Clayton just after midnight. No injuries were reported.
