Past support of health care mandate haunts Lugar

Police seize 25 pit bulls from home

Authorities in Muncie seized 25 pit bulls from a mobile home where investigators believe they were being trained for a dog-fighting operation. Police and animal shelter workers removed the dogs Thursday, finding many of them in small kennels along with at least four treadmills possibly used for forced exercise of the animals. Police are expected to seek an arrest warrant for the man believed to be keeping the dogs on the property on the city's northeast side.

People line up for lottery tickets

Hundreds of Indiana residents lined up across the state Friday to get free tickets from the Hoosier Lottery for the $540 million Mega Millions jackpot. About 60 people gathered at the lottery's Indianapolis headquarters to claim one free ticket each for Friday night's drawing. Lottery headquarters and convenience stores in Evansville, Fort Wayne, South Bend, Terre Haute and Zionsville were each giving away 540 free tickets.

Man shot to death on west side

March 30, 2012

Indianapolis police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Friday in the 1100 block of North Tibbs Avenue. Officers were called to a west-side home after shots were fired at about 1:30 a.m. and found 32-year-old Naamonn Crawford with at least one gunshot wound. He died on the scene. Police say the shooting could have occurred during an argument and they are looking for a 5-foot-6 230-pound suspect named James who ran from the scene.

Carmel man charged with defrauding Medicaid of $1M

Businessman Donald Hamilton faces one count of health care fraud, five counts of false statements in a health care matter and two counts of money laundering. He faces a maximum sentence of 55 years if convicted on all counts.

Indiana’s unemployment rate took a sizable dip in February, falling to 8.4 percent, as new jobless claims hit a seven-year low.

Finish Line launches running venture, reports strong sales

The Finish Line Inc. will partner with a private equity firm to expand its specialty running shops and develop Run.com, the Indianapolis-based retailer said Friday. The company also reported strong fourth-quarter earnings, but its outlook sent shares tumbling.

Deal allows Lugar to move Indiana voter registration

Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar will switch his voter registration to his family farm in resolving a dispute with local election officials who ruled that he couldn't vote using the address of an Indianapolis home he sold in 1977.
