A fire at the 15-story Disciples Center building in downtown Indianapolis forced the closure of portions of Washington, Delaware and Pennsylvania streets  Tuesday morning, clogging traffic for blocks around during rush hour. More than 70 firefighters fought the two-alarm blaze, which started when insulation being used in a renovation caught fire. Flames were reported on several floors of the building in the 100 block of East Washington. No one was reported injured.

Holladay Construction Group has started construction of a 12,000-square-foot flex industrial/office building for Brechbuhler Scales at Decatur Boulevard and Narita Road in the AmeriPlex-Indianapolis Corporate Park. The project is scheduled to be completed in September.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the pace of mortgage loan activity decreased 7.5 percent for the week ended March 25, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. The rate for 30-year mortgages increased to 4.92 percent from 4.8 percent the previous week. The rate for 15-year mortgages increased to 4.16 percent from 4.02 percent.

Classes have resumed at a central Indiana middle school for the first time since a 15-year-old student was shot and critically wounded last month. A State Police officer kept watch inside Martinsville West Middle School as its roughly 600 students returned Monday morning from a 10-day spring break. Other officers patrolled outside the school. On March 25, 15-year-old Chance Jackson was shot twice in the abdomen inside a school entrance. He remains in fair condition at an Indianapolis hospital.
 

Butler University’s second straight run to the NCAA men’s championship basketball game is keeping local bars and restaurants busy. Some taverns in Broad Ripple opened as early as 10 a.m. on Saturday, and fans showed up early despite an early-evening start time for Butler’s victory over Virginia Commonwealth University. Some bars even set up tents to accommodate additional fans. Bars expect similar crowds for Monday’s championship game against the University of Connecticut, which starts at 9:23 p.m.
