Three towns in Indiana will not have fireworks this year for July 4 celebrations. Greenfield, Spencer and Fortville do not
have money in their budgets to pay for fireworks like they have in the past.
 

Semi explodes after crash

A semi driver is recovering after his truck, loaded with beer, crashed and caught fire on Interstate 70 just west of downtown
Indianapolis about 2:30 a.m. Thursday. The driver, Carlos Torres, barely escaped the burning truck before it exploded. All
three westbound lanes were closed for more than six hours while emergency crews worked to clear the scene. The driver was
hauling 1,800 cases of Natural Light beer from Columbus, Ohio, to Terre Haute.

Cop fired after excessive-force probe

Indianapolis police officer Jerry Piland has been fired after an investigation into allegations of excessive force, Chief
Paul Ciesielski announced this morning. The investigation showed Piland unnecessarily kneed 15-year-old Brandon Johnson while
he was on the ground being handcuffed during a disorderly conduct arrest on May 16. Other officers involved in the arrest,
David Carney, Oliver Clouthier, Stacy Letinga and Joshua Shaughnessy, will return to street duty, but Letinga will receive
a letter of reprimand and Shaughnessy might receive a letter of caution. Fox59 will have more at 4 p.m.

Intoxicated veterinarian fired

Veterinarian Robert Maier has been fired from the VCA Shadeland Animal Hospital in Indianapolis after a dog owner called
police to report the vet was drunk on the job and about to perform surgery on a dog. Police say Maier exceeded the legal limit
on a portable breath test. Maier cooperated when they ordered him off the property, police say. He has worked at the clinic
for two years.
 

Suspect still on the run after chase

Police are still looking for a suspect after an early-morning chase in Beech Grove. It started after two vehicles were stolen
about 6 a.m. near Five Points Road. Both stolen trucks crashed and then at least two suspects ran away from the scene. Justin
McDonough, 18, was captured by a K-9 officer. Police believe at least one more suspect is still on the loose. The two trucks
are owned by Van Sickle’s Landscaping and Trucking.
