Firefighters suffer injuries

July 11, 2013

Four Indianapolis firefighters were injured fighting a southeast-side house fire in the 300 block of South Walcott Street just before 8 p.m. Wednesday. An out-of-control kitchen fire caused about $60,000 in damage. Three firefighters received minor burns, and another suffered a neck and back injury.
 

Body found outside apartments

July 11, 2013

Indianapolis police are investigating the discovery of a body outside an apartment complex on the northeast side. The dead male was found on a sidewalk next to a creek by a maintenance worker at about 9 a.m. in the 4200 block of Stratford Court, near 42nd Street and Post Road. An autopsy is pending.
 

Two men injured in shooting

July 11, 2013

A man was in critical condition after being shot multiple times late Wednesday in the 2100 block of Carrollton Avenue, near East 22nd Street and North College Avenue. The incident, which happened just before midnight, left another man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the leg. At least 10 people have been shot in Indianapolis in the last six days, resulting in five fatalities.
 

Indiana ends 2013 budget with improved cash balance

Gov. Mike Pence on Thursday praised budget closeout numbers showing the state with $93 million in an ongoing surplus and $86 million more than expected in cash reserves.

Bus inspections go online

Indiana State Police have begun posting results for annual school bus inspections online. The results show results from 30,000 inspections for individual buses, as well as how many buses were inspected in each school district and how many passed inspection. Police say the website will be updated within days after inspections are completed.
 

Two men injured by gunfire

July 10, 2013

A man was shot multiple times about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Harmony Place Apartments in the 3900 block of North Emerson Avenue on the northeast side of Indianapolis. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to fair. Meanwhile, another man showed up at IU Health Methodist Hospital with a gunshot wound shortly after the other shooting was reported. He is in stable condition. Police are investigating to see if there is a connection.
