Barron’s: Brighter days ahead for WellPoint

It’s been a tough year for major health insurers, but Barron’s magazine predicts a big comeback for Indianapolis-based WellPoint Inc. and its rival UnitedHealth Group.

It looks like Clarian may be back to deal-making. The Indianapolis-based hospital system has signed a letter of intent to absorb Morgan Hospital and Medical Center.

Liquor board OKs permit for City Market beer sales

The Marion County Alcoholic Beverage Board voted to approve a carryout liquor license for the historic downtown site. The permit will allow the Indiana Brewers Guild to open a bar featuring local craft beers.

Lawmakers drafting ‘spice’ ban

September 7, 2010

Indiana state lawmakers are preparing to present legislation that would ban the synthetic marijuana substitute known as K-2 or spice. The herb has recently been in the news in part because many believe it is a public safety concern. At least four counties in the state have banned store sales of the product. The product is banned in eight states, but not Indiana.

Just days after Mayor Greg Ballard announced a "zero-tolerance" policy for officers involved with alcohol on duty, a Facebook user posted a photo of a uniformed Indianapolis officer attending Rib America with a cold beer in his hand. The photo shows the officer, a veteran reserve patrolman, holding a 24-ounce can of Bud Light on Sunday near a rib stand. Lt. Jeff Duhamell said the officer was not drinking the beer. "He was asked to hold the beer and napkins and utensils for a guy putting rib sauce on his ribs," he said.

Police: Girl, 10, killed by mother’s boyfriend

September 7, 2010

Crawfordsville police say Steven Bixler intended to scare his girlfriend’s daughter as a disciplinary measure Saturday when he entered her room and pointed a rifle at her. Instead, the rifle discharged, firing a bullet directly into the 10-year-old’s torso. Savannah Ross died from the injuries. A sibling and two other friends saw the incident. Bixler has been charged with criminal recklessness, reckless homicide and pointing a firearm, but additional charges could be filed. Fox59 will have more at 4 p.m.

Auto auction’s new owner calls first event a success

-Cloudblue Technologies Inc. renewed its lease for 32,000 square feet at 8219 Zionsville Road. The tenant was represented by John Hanley of CB Richard Ellis. The landlord, ProLogis, represented itself.

-First Internet Bank of Indiana leased 14,766 square feet at 9200 Keystone Crossing. The tenant was represented by Tasia Cowan of OMIF LLC. The landlord, Philadelphia-based BPG Properties Ltd., was represented by John R. Robinson and Abby L. Cooper of Jones Lang LaSalle.

-Prudential Insurance leased 10,768 square feet at 8888 Keystone Crossing. The tenant was represented by Andrew Follman of Meridian Real Estate LLC. The landlord, Philadelphia-based BPG Properties Ltd., was represented by John R. Robinson and Abby L. Cooper of Jones Lang LaSalle.

-Emswiler Williams Noland & Clark leased 5,553 square feet at 8500 Keystone Crossing. The tenant was represented by Mike Napriu of REI Investments. The landlord, Philadelphia-based BPG Properties Ltd., was represented by John R. Robinson and Abby L. Cooper of Jones Lang LaSalle.

-George Thomas Florist leased 3,700 square feet at 5609 E. Washington St. The landlord, 5535 E. Washington Associates, was represented by Keith Kleinmaier of Retail Realty. The tenant represented itself.

-The Mattress Firm leased 3,676 square feet at Clearwater Shoppes, 3853-3857 E. 82nd St.  The tenant was represented by Scott Gray of Sitehawk Retail Real Estate. The landlord, Broadbent Co. Inc., was represented by Broadbent's John Beuoy.

-D & M Continuous Solutions LLC renewed its lease for 1,800 square feet of office space in the Greenwood Oaks Business Center, 500 S. Polk St., Greenwood. The tenant and landlord, Greenwood Oaks Investments LLC, were represented by Cathy Richards of Grubb & Ellis Harding Dahm & Co.

-O’Fit leased 1,510 square feet at Cricket Tree Shopping Center, 1138 W. 86th St. The tenant was represented by Andrew Follman of Meridian Real Estate. The landlord, James Family Partnership LP, was represented by Keith Fried of Sitehawk Retail Real Estate.

-L. Eckert Co. leased 1,500 square feet of office space in the Greenwood Oaks Business Center, 500 S. Polk St., Greenwood. The tenant and landlord, Greenwood Oaks Investments LLC, were represented by Cathy Richards of Grubb & Ellis Harding Dahm & Co.

-Dr. Shelley Couglin leased 1,113 square feet at Northeast Office Center, 5640 Caito Drive. The tenant was represented by Matthew Tobe of Halakar Real Estate. The landlord, Sycamore Property Investments, was represented by Jim Mount of Hokanson Cos.
