Charges against church leader may grow

Avon police say a church leader charged with criminal deviate conduct for allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old boy may have eight or more other victims. Daniel Keller, a former elder at Kingsway Christian Church, is free on $100,000 bond after his arrest. Police say three others told them they were molested by Keller several years ago when he lived in the Ben Davis community on Indianapolis' west side. One of the alleged victims said he was 12 when he was assaulted. Keller told police the sexual relationship with the 16-year-old was consensual.
 

Authorities take 63 dogs from shelter

November 9, 2012

Dozens of dogs were taken from a pet rescue Thursday after the Muncie Animal Shelter received an anonymous tip about neglect and deplorable conditions. Some of the 63 dogs rescued from the Adopt-A-Lab facility had injuries, while others were sick. Authorities say the operators probably had good intentions but became overwhelmed. They surrendered the dogs to avoid possible prosecution.   
 

Earlham suspends classes after train death

November 9, 2012

Police are trying to determine what led three Earlham College students to be struck by a train early Friday morning while walking near a group of nightclubs in Richmond. Senior Therese Heymann of Burlingame, Calif., was killed, and the two others had to be airlifted to a Dayton, Ohio, hospital. Classes at the Quaker-affiliated college of about 1,200 students were suspended Friday. Police said the three were out in the historic Depot District of Richmond for the annual College Night event. They were struck about 1:15 a.m.
